James is a professional drummer, percussionist and educator from Glasgow. He has been teaching in schools, music schools, privately and online throughout the last ten years. 

 

James enjoys playing and teaching all styles of music and has performed in various bands/ensembles ranging in style from jazz to rock and everything in between. James held the drum chair in Byres Road Big Band for seven years, who most notably performed a double big band concert with the Ryan Quigley Big Band in conjunction with the 2014 Commonwealth Games. James currently performs and records with his originals band Sara ’N’ Junbug who played TRNSMT festival 2021 and regularly release new music . James incorporates both acoustic and electric drums into his live/recording setup and is a Roland UK artist. 

 

James teaches students of all levels from beginner to advanced and his specialist areas are: groove playing, hand technique/rudiments, improvising, chart reading and creative independence. James teaches Rockschool, Trinity and SQA materials at all grade levels and uses classic drum education books such as ‘Tommy Igoe’s Groove Essentials’ and ‘Stick Control’ in his teaching.
